An Instagram Post always needs media. Set placement in destination_options.instagram. Read Media guidelines for the general rules.

Media per post

A post and a Story accept an image. A Reel accepts a video.

Video limits

Instagram recommends a 9:16 vertical video. OpenPMM gives advice for a different aspect ratio, but it does not block the post.

Image limits

OpenPMM converts a PNG or a WebP image to JPEG for you, and makes the file smaller when it is above 8 MB. See Media compatibility. An aspect ratio outside the 4:5 to 1.91:1 range needs a crop or a pad. OpenPMM does not do this for you, because it changes what the image shows. Use another file, or remove the destination. A Story has no aspect ratio limit. Instagram recommends 9:16 to prevent a crop or a blank space. Instagram crops every image in a carousel to match the first image. The default is 1:1.
